Thistle Ermine - Myelois circumvoluta

Wingspan 27-33 mm. This is a very distinctive moth, rather reminiscent of a larger version of the Yponomeutidae family.

Found in habitats where the foodplants (Thistles) grow.

Flying in June and July, the adults can be attracted to light.

As the name suggests, the larval foodplants are various types of Thistle.

This moth is distributed over the southern half of Britain and is fairly common. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Quite common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
