Pinion-streaked Snout - Schrankia costaestrigalis

Wingspan 16 to 22 mm.

Marshy places, damp meadows and fens are the preferred habitat.

The adults can be noted on the wing from July to October, possibly as two generations.

Not much is known about the earlier stages of this species in the wild, as the larva has only ever been reared in captivity.

It occurs locally over much of Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as local.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = C (very scarce resident or rare migrant).
