Nemapogon clematella
Barred White Clothes Moth
Wingspan 12 to 15 mm. One of the more distinctive of the Tineidae with a dark bar across a white wing.
Mature woodland and well wooded areas.
May to August.
The larvae feed on fungus growing on dead branches of various trees, or in rotten wood.
Distributed over much of England and Wales but rather local. In the Butterfly ConservationÂ’'s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.
It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
