Monopis obviella
Yellow-backed Clothes Moth
Wingspan 10 to13 mm.
Various habitats, sometimes found indoors.
The adult moths can be found on the wing between May and October, when they will occasionally come to light. There are most likely two generations.
The larvae are scavengers, feeding on animal and plant refuse, especially woollen materials.
Occurring chiefly in southern England, the true distribution of this species is imperfectly known due to previous confusion regarding identification. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.
It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
