A small (2.5 to 3.6 mm) species with a dark brown, or blackish body. This species has small spikes around the edge of the pronotum but these may be very difficult to see without magnification.
Unless identified by a recognised expert, a photo is required. If the photo doesn't show the key ID features then in the comments box describe the size and identifying characters you have observed.
The species of this family may be found under bark or in the small branches of trees and hedgerow shrubs.
All year round.
The adults and larvae feed on other insects which are living on wood and fungi.
The species seems to be widespread in England, but true status is difficult to determine due to lack of records.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
