Eutomostethus ephippium
5-7mm. This sawfly is black with red on the top of the thorax. The black legs have a pale band around the joint of the femora and tibia.
Eriocampa ovata is similar but is more heavily punctured on the head and thorax and the orange on the thorax is restricted to the dorsal surface only.

It flies from May
Larvae feed on grasses of the Poa family.
Fairly frequent especially in southern Britain
Common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
