Bembidion articulatum

2.9 to 3.9 mm. Antennae with at least 3 pale basal segments, most of the fourth also usually pale. Pronotum with longitudinal central furrow, strongly constricted to base.

• head and pronotum shining black (with metallic reflection)
• some/all of basal four antennal segments pale
• legs all pale
• frontal furrows on head deep and converging
• pronotum narrow and sinuate with squared projection at rear

Usually found at the exposed edges of still water, but also in flood refuse and muddy areas.

Mainly from March to August, but has been recorded in most months of the year.

Breeds in spring and summer.

Widespread in the southern half of Britain, but seems to be much less frequent further north.

Uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland.
