Occupies woodland, parks, gardens and orchards.

When to see it

June to August

Life History

The overwintering larvae feed on lichens which grow on the bark of a variety of deciduous and coniferous trees.

UK Status

It is locally distributed over the southern half of Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as local.

VC55 Status

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire & Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant)
