Ascocoryne cylichnium
Fairly large dark purple or wine-red discs or cups, up to 2cm across, with gelatinous flesh. This is a sexual (teleomorphic) form, producing ascospores; unlike Ascocoryne sarcoides, there is no known asexual (anamorphic) form of this species.
The sexual teleomorph of Purple Jellydisc Ascocoryne sarcoides is very similar and spore examination is required to confirm A. cylichnium.
Photograph on host plant; note substrate and associated plant species. We recommend that this is identifed by an expert, from a specimen, before submission to NatureSpot; microscopic examination is needed
