Asaphidion stierlini
This is a very handsome beetle, the entire upper surface shiny metallic bronze mottled with violet or blue overtones. Despite the distinctive appearance there are other very similar species and detailed examination is necessary to reach a sound id.
Various habitats including arable fields and even shaded areas where it may be located hiding under stones and logs.
Mainly from April to September.
A. stierlini is mostly found in south east Britain ranging north to south Yorkshire.
Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 24 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
Asaphidion flavipes, A. curtum, and A. stierlini are all similar in shape and size
