Iseropus stercorator

Description

Iseropus stercorator is a Pimpline Ichneumon wasp of the tribe Ephialtini. It has a black head, thorax and abdomen and predominately red legs like many Pimpline Ichnemons. The fore coxa may be partially black with middle and hind coxae are red. The hind tibia is distinctively marked with white, black, white, black, bands with similar banding to the hind tarsus. Males have stonger banding to hind tibia and a yellow face and clypeus.

Body length ~ 8 - 12 mm and fore wing length ~ 5 - 7.8 mm with black or dark brown pterostigma with a pale extereme proximal corner

Ovipositor to hind tibia index in females of 1.2 - 1.5

Life History

Bivoltine and overwintering as prepupa it is a parasitoid of various flimisly cacooned moth prepupae or fresh pupae.
