A black hoverfly with clear wings.  It has a flat face in profile, with long drooping hairs.  The antennae have an elongated third secton.  The antennae are inserted low down, in males this is well below the top of the inflated frons. 

There are a number of very similar black hoverfles with clear wings; detailed photos or verificatioan by an expert will be needed to tell them apart.

Good photgraphs of a specimen are needed. Photograph in side view, with the head in profile, and from top down; it is helpful to photograph wing venation and details of face and head.  We recommend that your record is confirmed by an expert before submission to NatureSpot.
