Wall Bellflower, Campanula muralis

Campanula portenschlagiana is a low-growing plant, quickly forming an evergreen mat of small, rounded or heart shaped leaves. It has bell-shaped purple-blue or violet-blue flowers 2cm in length borne freely on branching stems from 10 to 20cm in height.

Widely grown in gardens but it is a well-established escape (since 1920s) found on walls, cracks in pavements, banks and waste ground.  

Adria Bellflower peaks with a mass of flowers in May and June, but a few flowers can be found in most months, including January.

Perennial.

Widespread in the southern half of Britain as an established escape from cultivation.

Rare as an established escape from cultivation in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
