Description

Wingspan 17-22 mm. A rather small, narrow-winged species.

Habitat

Prefers coastal habitats but it can be found locally throughout most of Britain.

When to see it

Usually a late flight period from July through to early November but can be seen earlier.

Life History

The larvae feed on mosses on walls and in sand-dunes.

UK Status

Mainly coastal but often encountered inland. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

VC55 Status

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = C (very scarce resident or rare migrant). This species seems to be becoming more common in our area.
