Getting There

The verge is located to the northeast of South Luffenham village on Stamford Road, between the River Chater and the Station Road junction.

From the A47, exit northwards onto Station Road towards North Luffenham, and turn right onto Stamford Road at the roundabout.

Description

Designated a Local Wildlife Site in 2003, the South Luffenham South verge is 1.4 kilometers in length, on the south side of Stamford Road only. The main habitats are mesotrophic, calcareous and mixed grassland.

Wildlife Highlights

Recorded species include: Agrimony, Common Restharrow, Field Scabious, Greater Knapweed, Pyramidal Orchid, Common Bird’s-foot Trefoil, Black Knapweed, Cowslip, Meadow Buttercup, Meadow Vetchling, and Red Clover.
